About Marker Learning:

Marker Learning is on a mission to help schools and parents access more affordable and accessible learning disability (e.g., dyslexia) assessments. 1 in 5 students has a learning disability such as dyslexia, which makes it harder for them to read, spell, and write--despite their intelligence. While receiving a proper evaluation for a learning disability could be the most impactful event in a student’s life, it is estimated that only 4% of students receive a diagnosis because of the high costs of evaluations and lack of access to qualified psychologists. Undiagnosed students are 3x more likely to drop out of high school, 5x more likely to be unemployed, and tend to experience elevated levels of anxiety and depression.

By leveraging proprietary technology developed by leading experts, the end-to-end Marker evaluation is completed in a fraction of the time compared to traditional assessment methods. Marker is a rapidly growing start-up backed by some of the most mission-driven and reputable venture capital firms and education non-profits.

Join us in our mission to inspire and support all students on their unique learning paths!

At Marker Learning, we are pioneering innovative, AI-powered tools to redefine learning evaluations and empower psychologists, students, and educators. We’re seeking a versatile and highly adaptable engineer to accelerate development of our research initiatives. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in high-ambiguity environments, embraces calculated risks, and wants to push boundaries in education technology.

What You’ll Work On

  • Collaborate with the team to rapidly create and pilot innovative subtests, driving efficiency in evaluations.
  • Work on advanced features such as automated error analysis, intelligent scoring mechanisms, and insights from video feeds.
  • Work with psychometricians and data scientists to productionalize computerized adaptive testing and support research projects. Contribute to infrastructure and research code, with opportunities to co-author peer-reviewed publications.
  • Help design and implement robust back-end systems to support MM and other research-driven initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong full-stack capabilities, ideally in React, Python, and Django.
  • Proven success in high-ambiguity, fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, iterative development, and balancing speed with maintainable code.
  • Ability to execute without extensive guardrails, independently driving technical investigations and build vs. buy decisions.
  • High adaptability and resilience to setbacks, maintaining a positive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Prior experience as a research engineer, founding engineer, or similar role is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working on non-scrum, process-light teams.
  • Experience developing AI-based features or working with ML infrastructure is a bonus.

Impact and Cultural Fit
This role requires someone with a “roll with the punches” mentality who can drive forward even amidst uncertainty. You’ll help foster a culture of resilience and adaptability, enabling rapid validation of research hypotheses and unlocking transformative advancements in education technology. If you’re eager to make a tangible impact, thrive in experimental environments, and want to contribute to cutting-edge solutions that redefine how students learn, this role is for you.
