The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide healthcare services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Abilene State Supported Living Center. Practice Info
- Serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems
- Provide campus-based direct services and supports at State Supported Living Centers
- Work under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or other supervising physicians
- Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
Responsibilities
- Conduct complete physicals, provide treatment, write summaries, and counsel individuals
- Prescribe medication on a case-by-case basis
- Provide preventive care, order laboratory tests, analyze results, and make referrals to specialists
- Complete documentation related to health care and communicate with interdisciplinary team members, individuals, and their families
- Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment
- Provide medical services, diagnosis, and treatment to assigned caseload following accepted medical practice under the supervision of a physician
- Provide comprehensive medical diagnosis, care, and treatment, including conducting rounds, reviewing infirmary and hospitalized patients, and on-call cases
- Develop accurate and timely documentation, including dictation of annual summaries and pre- and post-procedural histories and physicals

- Salary Range: $8,488.33 - $14,356

Shift & Schedule
- Shift: Day
- May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet operational needs of the facility
- Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position
- The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
Requirements
- Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of general medicine and of the principle of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans
- Knowledge of medical jurisprudence
- Knowledge of or ability to learn ICF/IID standards, certification requirements for the Council on Quality and Leadership, and HHSC policies and procedures
- Skill in the care and treatment of patients and in the use of medical diagnostic and treatment tools and equipment
- Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat physical or mental disorders, interpret laboratory analyses and x-rays, and prepare and supervise preparation of case histories and medical records
- Ability to evaluate patients and implement an effective course of treatment in coordination with other interdisciplinary personnel
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to maintain required Medical Education hours
- Must be licensed as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas
- Must practice under the supervision of one or more supervising physicians, and if prescribing drugs, must have a prescriptive delegation agreement with their supervising physician(s)
