We are looking for a Packaging Design Engineer to join our team and play a key role in developing engaging and sustainable unboxing experiences for over 200,000 subscribers and our retail partners. You will work in a world-class, cross-functional team where strong communication and collaboration are foundational to success. The ideal candidate will be able to assist the packaging team with drafting, prototyping, and validation priorities while also working with the design, innovation, and engineering teams to develop creative packaging solutions.

This position is on-site at our Boise, ID, headquarters. We can offer relocation assistance for non-local candidates interested in moving.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop packaging solutions for both e-commerce and retail packaging environments. This will include primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging that adheres to strict safety, regulatory, sustainability, and performance requirements.
  • Ensure packaging designs are compliant with our sustainability standards.
  • Prepare technical drawings including, specification sheets, bills-of-material, pallet patterns, and other documentation necessary for manufacturing.
  • Evaluate new and existing packaging solutions to improve user experience, sustainability, performance, quality, and cost.
  • Create packaging prototypes for validation testing.
  • Perform internal validation testing for new and existing packaging solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Operations, Quality, and Marketing teams to determine packaging design goals.
  • Collaborate with the creative team to determine e-commerce and retail packaging printing specifications.
  • Collaborate with the innovation, design, and engineering teams to develop creative packaging solutions and unboxing experiences for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with overseas and domestic suppliers to evaluate packaging designs and optimize for manufacturing (up to 25% international travel required to suppliers).

Qualifications:

  • Post-college industry experience or a graduate degree in a related field of study.
  • Working knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of sustainable packaging design practices.
  • Working knowledge of e-commerce and retail packaging standards.
  • Proven ability to use a digital cutting table and work in a shop environment.
  • Ability to travel to our off-site packaging lab a minimum of 3 days a week.
  • Familiar with toy safety standards related to both distribution and retained packaging.
  • Familiar with validation testing requirements for different types of packaging.
  • Passion for packaging design and a basic understanding of macro design trends.
  • A portfolio showing your ability to think visually and work through digital and physical iterations of an idea.
