Everyone is welcome at Handshake. We know diverse teams build better products and we are committed to creating an inclusive culture built on a foundation of respect for all individuals. We strongly encourage candidates from non-traditional backgrounds, historically marginalized or underrepresented groups to apply.

Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Director, Product Management (Core Employer Experience and Monetization), reporting to the President and Chief Product Officer. This individual will drive the strategy and execution of Handshake’s Employer product used by 900k companies, overseeing the development and management of the employer experience for both free and self-service products. More specifically, they will help uplevel and transform the employer experience for small- and medium-size businesses to drive rapid business growth in a market segment with massive upside.

This role is a unique opportunity to help accelerate Handshake’s growth in a way that drives Handshake’s mission and our business. Today, the biggest employers have access to the most powerful tools in the recruiting journey. This role will be responsible for making those powerful tools more accessible to small- and medium-size businesses, and therefore expand access to opportunity for more students. And this role will help drive massive business value. Our initial venture into self-service doubled run-rate revenue in the past quarter—now, it’s time to scale.

To achieve this vision, you’ll be leading a team that partners closely with cross-functional efforts including not just R&D but also demand generation, marketing operations, product marketing, sales, customer success and insights - together building a truly game-changing SaaS platform. At the same time, you’ll be mindful about making a positive societal impact, including improving diversity, equity and inclusion in entry-level recruiting.

Your role

You’ll plan and deliver a roadmap to:

  • Expand and innovate: our employer product offering for small- and medium-size businesses to transform the recruiting process, and provide ever increasing value to our marketplace, ensuring we’re growing the number of jobs, users, events and other components of our thriving marketplace that drives value to millions of young professionals.
  • Engage users: find opportunities to drive engagement and hiring outcomes for employer users
  • Drive marketplace value: identify and optimize the key points of value creation across all three sides of the network
  • Define the monetization strategy: Develop and implement strategies to monetize the employer product, focusing on self-service and subscription models.
  • SMB and Mid Market focus: Enhance the experience for SMB and Mid Market customers, driving rapid growth in these segments.

You’ll own the lifecycle end-to-end for your product area, including:

  • Leadership. You’ll represent your squad and product area to executives, and translate company-wide strategies to your squad and into your roadmap. You’ll inspire your team on the product vision.
  • Product strategy. You’ll ensure that your squads have a cohesive and differentiated product strategy that ladders up into the Employer team and company strategy.
  • Product development: You’ll lead a high performing cross-functional squad, collaborating closely with your engineering and design partners, from research and roadmap planning to delivery
  • Launch and adoption: You’ll partner closely on go-to-market and implementation, working with marketing, sales and customer success. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on. It’s never someone else’s problem. You’ll run beta programs and pilots to maximize learning and minimize code investment, getting close to the customer and the details through the process.
  • Cross-Handshake partnership: You’ll work with stakeholders across broader Employer team and on other sides of the Handshake marketplace (Consumer and EDU Partners) to innovate quickly but deliberately
  • Goals, metrics and tracking: You’ll create a robust and clear thread of data from strategy through development through in-market iteration.

Your experience

  • Deep experience and understanding of Product Led Growth (PLG) in B2B SaaS, having worked with a product with significant free user base and developed self-service purchasing and adoption journeys
  • Strong foundation in roadmap development and releasing products for complex, multifaceted marketplace businesses or SaaS platforms.
  • 7+ years partnering with engineering teams to ship code. Ideally in a many-stakeholder environment with dependencies, collaboration, and having managed other Product Managers directly
  • Strong systems and analytical thinker. Can connect the dots, spot challenges and edge cases, integrate multiple considerations.
  • Working knowledge of data-driven applications including mapping, schemas, permissions that inform user interactions and downstream analytics.
  • User focused. You dive headfirst into understanding the needs of employers and build products grounded in data and research.

Bonus areas of expertise

  • Product management experience in both fast-growing consumer marketplaces and SaaS businesses with 100+ employees is a major plus.
  • Development of B2B products connecting to a marketplace platform (e.g. the supplier side of an e-commerce marketplace)
  • Revenue-generating entrepreneurial experience

Compensation range

  • $250,000 - $265,000

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
