Coral Care Lead Engineer/ Head of Software Engineering New York, NY · Full time Company website

Coral Care is hiring a senior, hands-on Lead Engineer to build and own the technical foundation of our growing healthcare marketplace. This role combines deep individual contribution with architectural ownership and people leadership, including managing contractors and shaping our engineering standards. You’ll work closely with the Founder & CEO and cross-functional leaders to modernize our core platform, scale our systems, and lay the groundwork for a future in-house engineering team.

About Coral Care

At Coral Care, we believe families should never have to fight for the care their children need. Millions of young children in the U.S. experience developmental delays, yet parents often face long waitlists and complex systems. Our mission is to change that by making high-quality pediatric therapy accessible at home and in the community. We are a platform powering a two-sided marketplace: helping families connect with trusted, local speech, occupational, and physical therapists who accept insurance, and supporting providers in building thriving private practices within their own communities. Since launching in 2023, Coral Care has delivered thousands of therapy sessions and expanded across multiple states. We are a fast-growing, mission-driven team with a culture of compassion, collaboration, and momentum — and we are just getting started.

Description

Coral Care is hiring a Lead Engineer to own the technical execution of our next phase of growth and help build a New York-based engineering team. This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced full-stack engineer who wants real ownership across architecture, delivery, and team leadership, with a clear path to VP of Engineering.

You will work directly with the Founder & CEO to scale Coral Care’s core platform, including marketplace and matching logic, clinical and operational tooling, and applied AI systems that support care delivery. In the near term, the role balances writing production code with architectural decision-making and people leadership. Over time, it expands to include broader technical strategy and team development.

About Coral Care

Coral Care is a venture-backed, hyper-local healthcare marketplace focused on improving access to in-person pediatric developmental therapy.

When families have concerns about their child’s development, finding timely, insurance-covered care can be difficult and overwhelming. At the same time, clinicians who want to deliver that care face administrative burden, inconsistent referrals, and limited infrastructure when building private practices.

Coral Care addresses both sides of this problem. We connect families to trusted local clinicians for in-home care, while providing therapists with the tools, operational support, and infrastructure needed to build sustainable practices. Technology underpins our ability to deliver care reliably, locally, and at scale.

About the Role

We are hiring a Lead Engineer to help shape the technical foundation of Coral Care’s next phase of growth.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role with meaningful ownership across architecture, execution, and team leadership. You will be responsible for building and evolving our core platform, managing a small group of engineering contractors, and writing production code. Over time, this role will expand to include hiring and leading a growing engineering team, with a clear path to VP of Engineering.

You will report directly to the Founder & CEO and work cross-functionally across operations, clinical leadership, and go-to-market teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical architecture and system design across a growing, multi-sided healthcare platform
  • Write and ship high-quality production code on a regular basis
  • Lead and manage existing engineering contractors (currently five)
  • Establish and uphold engineering standards, development workflows, and best practices
  • Translate business, clinical, and operational requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Partner with leadership to define and execute the technical roadmap
  • Hire and onboard additional engineers as the team grows, including a future Staff Engineer with a focus on applied AI and machine learning
  • Ensure systems are designed and operated in compliance with healthcare privacy and security requirements, including HIPAA

What You’ll Work On

  • Evolving Coral Care’s core platform to support scale, reliability, and new capabilities
  • Marketplace and matching logic supporting a hyper-local care model
  • Applied AI and intelligent decision systems to improve matching, workflows, and internal tooling
  • Clinical documentation and EMR tooling
  • Native mobile applications for providers
  • Internal systems supporting sales, care coordination, and operations
  • Platform scalability to support continued geographic expansion

Who Is the Right Fit

This role is a strong fit if you:

  • Are a senior full-stack engineer with meaningful early-stage startup experience
  • Have owned architectural decisions and technical roadmaps through periods of growth
  • Are comfortable operating across frontend, backend, and infrastructure layers
  • Enjoy being close to the code while also setting direction for others
  • Are confident and opinionated, while collaborative and grounded
  • Are calm under ambiguity and motivated by meaningful ownership
  • Have experience building or operating systems that handle sensitive or regulated data
  • Want to build and lead a New York-based engineering team

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience
  • Competitive equity offering with meaningful ownership
  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Take-what-you-need paid time off policy
  • Opportunity to play a foundational role at a growing, venture-backed company
  • Direct impact on a mission-driven platform improving access to care for families and supporting clinicians in building sustainable practices

Salary

$200,000 - $250,000 per year
