This is an in office position, which would require 5 days a week in the CodeHS Chicago office at 747 N LaSalle in River North.
Must be authorized to work in the US. We are a distributed company.

Role

CodeHS is hiring a Product Engineer to join the Engineering Team. You will split your time between software engineering and planning technical projects. You'll focus on ensuring that projects we want to complete have a technical plan, are handed off to engineers who can work on them, and are completed and communicated across teams and externally.
Your deliverables will be project specs that explain the business needs of a project along with a roadmap for the technical implementation decisions for the project. You will then follow these projects to completion, ensuring they’re implemented successfully, shipped, and communicated.
You will report directly to the CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Build and write project specs.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of projects in the pipeline from a technical perspective.
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure new projects meet business needs.
  • Collaborate with designers to plan implementations
  • Collaborate with engineers to make design decisions and launch decisions
  • Write code to prototype or explore in order to make good design decisions.
  • Kick off projects with engineers who work on them.
  • Work with Linear issues, Asana, and Notion to organize, categorize, and document product roadmap
  • Communicate product updates internally and externally
  • Coordinate with marketing to communicate external updates and launches
  • Develop their own projects to an extent (% of time coding TBD per-person)

Qualifications

  • Capable Software Engineer
  • Clear communicator of technical information
  • Ability to balance technical details alongside business needs
  • Good sense for user impact

Not Responsible for

  • Being a direct people manager
  • Defining company product strategy. You will have input into project prioritization but are not responsible for determining product direction at the company level
